Project Overveiw
For this project we were assigned to make prints using a soft block and carving tools to make our design in the block. We were also given bench hooks to use on our table so that we wouldn't have to worry about cutting or stabbing ourselves with the super sharp carving tools. The style of printing we used was called relief printing where you use block printing ink and spread it out on a piece of plexiglass with a brayer. You then roll the brayer over your block to get the ink onto the print. You then take a piece of paper and press it onto your paper. To help improve our prints we did multiple proofs to perfect any flaws in our prints. We also were required to make to two final prints one in color and one just black and white. There were multiple ways that people were using color in their prints but i decided to use the " a la poupee" technique which is basically using colored pencils on the paper before you press the paper onto the block. The other technique called "Chine Colle" was done by cutting out pieces of colored paper and gluing them to your printing paper and then pressing it onto the block.

Point of View
By Samuel Gressitt
The print I created is based off a drawing I did in the past. The drawing was something that came to mind and I put it on paper. I had to simplify the drawing to be able to carve it into a print block but I tried to use different techniques to keep the detail and make the image not look so flat. I chose this image because I thought it wouldn't be too complicated to transfer onto a block. I also thought that with all the blank space I would be able to put some variation into each print. For some of my prints I added coloring that was supposed to look like a sunset on to the background of the paper I was printing onto. I also tried using colored paper by gluing it to the paper I was printing on but the results of this style of printing were not very good.
